Discover Our Journey
Runy's Journey

From Shanghai Back to
Village Workshops

In 2020, after losing her job in Shanghai during the pandemic, our founder Runy returned to the mountains of Xiangxi and Guizhou, the region where she grew up. What began as a difficult turn in life became a way back to the people and crafts she had known since childhood.

Back home, she saw how many Miao, Dong, and Tujia artisans were still making batik, embroidery, and silverwork by hand, often with few younger people ready to continue the work. The skill was still there. The market for it was becoming harder to reach.

Runystore was created to make that connection more direct: village workshops on one side, people around the world who value handmade cultural pieces on the other. Our goal is simple: help these crafts stay useful, visible, and fairly valued.

Film Documentary

Meet the
Artisans

Every piece begins with a person, not a factory line. In Guizhou, batik, embroidery, and silverwork are still shaped by hand using skills learned over years. This short film is a closer look at the people and process behind what you bring home.

The Crafts We Carry

Made by hand, shaped by place

Miao Batik

Miao Batik

Miao batik is made with wax-resist drawing and indigo dyeing. The fine crackle marks, often called ice cracks, come from the wax and dye process, giving each textile a surface that cannot be exactly repeated.

Ethnic Embroidery

Miao Embroidery

Miao embroidery records stories through stitched motifs such as butterflies, dragons, birds, and flowers. Many pieces take days or weeks to finish, depending on the size and detail of the pattern.

Miao Silverwork

Miao Silverwork

Miao silver pieces are shaped through hand processes such as melting, hammering, carving, and filigree work. Some designs are worn for beauty; others carry older ideas of protection, identity, and family memory.

Our Commitments

Social Mission

Working First With 55+ Artisans

Many of the artisans we work with are over 55, with decades of experience and few successors. We prioritize these makers because their skills are hard to replace, and because steady orders help them keep earning from work they know deeply.

"A handmade piece carries the time, skill, and memory of the person who made it."

Fair Trade Artisan
Economic Integrity

Fair Trade & Direct Benefit

We work to reduce unnecessary middlemen and keep more value in the villages where the pieces are made. That means clearer sourcing, closer relationships with workshops, and a more practical reason for artisans to continue their craft at home.

Sustainability

Natural Materials, Less Waste

We prioritize natural fibers, indigo dyeing, and lower-waste packaging wherever possible. Handmade production is not perfect, but we choose materials and processes with care and keep improving as better options become available.
